Hot Applications
• WB inks, adhesives (PSA) to plastic film
B-515.71W is the leading candidate for bonding to Mylar and treated PP. This is our lowest cost product (other than “M” products). Use level is 0.35 - 2.0 wt per cent on polymer solids. Used in US, Europe, and Asia.
Some customers have been able to substitute B-515.71WM (where the binder is highly carboxylated polymer) for a further 45% cost reduction.
• Concrete Coatings
B-515.71W now approved (approx. 50% of cost of traditionally used B-515.4/ B-515.4W) at several manufacturers for low cost improved adhesion to concrete of acrylic, styrenated acrylic, and other WB.
• Silane Replacement
C-515.71HR, C-515.72HR in 2K epoxy, 2K urethane and SB rubber. B-515.71W in most types of WB.
• Coil Coatings
D-525.3 still used in coil primers (corrosion resistance) and coil DTM/ topcoat polyesters for pigment dispersion. C-515.71HR beginning to supplant D-525.3 with cost savings. Usage in US, Brazil, UK, China, India, and Australia.
• Glass Adhesion
C-515.71HR, C-515.72HR, C-523.71HR, and C-515.75 gave excellent continued adhesion of phenolic coating to glass (at levels as low as 0.35%) after 1 week water soak.

New “M” Products Show Excellent Performance in WB Acrylic
Metal only “M” Products
Recent work shows that in some cases the metal segment of our products ONLY (no organoreactive group) can offer performance comparable to the complete product. This enables us to further reduce prices for these “M” grades by $0.50 - $1.00/ lb

The untreated CRS panels shown here were roll coated 1.0 mil DFT with a Benjamin Moore WB DTM to which the appropriate amount of Chartwell adhesion promoter was post added and mixed with a pipette.
The panels were then scribed (both upper “X” and lower grid) and placed in room temperature water for 72 hours. The control shows substantial corrosion resulting from undercutting (poor adhesion) of the film at the scribe.
In contrast, C-515.71HRM shows outstanding results at 0.70% on resin solids (marginally better than 0.35 and 1.4%). B-515.71WM shows excellent results at 0.35% on resin solids with good but lesser performance at 1.4 phr.
Note: Lower grid appears on all panels. No undercutting except on control. |
